UNDERWATER RESEARCH

In 2008, RCUD initiated and first began archaeological underwater research in the Montenegrin aquatorium with the American foundation RPM "NAUTICAL". The Center for Conservation and Archaeology of Montenegro, the American company RPM "Nautical" and RCUD signed the Underwater Exploration Agreement.

During underwater research it has been discovered 11 sites with shipwrecks sunk in the period from the first to the fourth century BC and 15 sites with the remains of vessels sunk in the period from the first to the 19th century AD.

In addition to underwater research, the priority task of RCUD is the protection and valorization of cultural heritage located in the Montenegrin seabed. This is evidenced by the results achieved in the field of underwater research and training of divers, graduate archaeologists and conservators for work on underwater archaeological sites.

In addition to underwater archaeological research, one of the specialties of RCUD divers is the exploration of underwater caves. In collaboration with fellow cave divers from Italy and Slovenia, they explored well-known underwater caves, which contributed to the latest discoveries of importance to science.
